      WHATCOM FC RANGERS

      Fall Speed, Agility, Quickness and Technical Development Sessions

      With the season upon us, The Whatcom FC Rangers are once again pleased to offer supplemental training for our athletes looking to improve their overall play. This season we are hosting SAQ sessions, overseen by Rangers staff and Performance Coach, Megan Richey (Neigh Manthey)

      Objective: Over the course of four weeks we will provide new tools and techniques to improve and develop each player's speed, agility and quickness and confidence on and off the ball.

      Each player will need to bring a soccer ball, cleats, and water with them to each session.

      Ages: U12-U13 boys/girls (Maximum 30 players)
      When: Friday October 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd. 5:30- 7:00 PM
      Where: Joe Martin Field (Behind Civic Stadium, Bellingham WA)

      Performance Coach: Megan Richey

      Week 1: Linear Acceleration and deceleration

      Week 2: Jumping and Bounding

      Week 3: Lateral Direction Change

      Week 4: Putting it all together

      Coach Richey's philosophy:

      "After playing at the professional level I have gained a lot of practical knowledge in the areas of speed, agility and quickness and how that translates to stronger performances on the field. It is an area of the game that I am passionate about teaching. It is critical for young players to begin the development of proper technique in order to reach their fullest potential. As a club, we believe that implementing these session into the player's weekly training regime, will help them gain more control over their bodies and thus be able to maintain and improve the soccer skills they already have

      Coach Richey's Bio:

      Megan Richey is a native of Ferndale, WA. She grew up in the WFC Ranger system until leaving at 16 to attend IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL. She spent her first two years of college as a Buffalo at the University of Colorado where she played two seasons helping lead her team to the sweet sixteen in the NCCA Division 1 Championship. She graduated from the College of Charleston leading the Southern Conference in her final season in goals and points and was the MVP. After graduating, she went on to pursue her professional career where she played for two and a half seasons with the club Fortuna Hjorring in Denmark. She played 3 seasons in the UEFA Women's Champions League and won a Danish national championship. While in Denmark, Megan was responsible for the technical development of 6-8th graders who were a part of a school/soccer club partnership. After leaving Denmark she played for a season with the Women Sounders with the likes of Alex Morgan, Hope Solo, and Megan Rapinoe. Her next professional contract would take her to Saint Etienne, France where she played for A.S.S.E in the Women's French Premier League, Feminine Division 1. Her final stop in her professional career took her to the club Stjarnan, in Iceland, where she won the Icelandic championship. She spent last winter in Southern California as the head coach of Linfield Christian High School where she helped coach the team to the league championship and was named coach of the year.
